Updates on our communities' life in 2017

3 months - 3 higlighted events

2017. április 03. - Debreceni Református Egyetemi Gyülekezet

January

It was a cold but heartwarming day, especially for those who were at the centre of the city that day. On an event was held to celebrate the beginning of the memorial year for the reformation. And we took the opportunity to represent our church by talking to the people, giving out flyers and making it interactive by asking them to be the part of our church family just for that they as we set up a photobooth for that special reason.

It is on our hearts to not just be part of our communities but also to take part on events like this, held by the Reformed Church of Hungary!

Here are some photos we wanted to share!

GAME NIGHT IN ALL OF OUR COMMUNITIES!!!

Just a word what this actually means, in Hungary it is getting more and more popular amongst the students to attend an organised event where there are a lot of board games. This is an amazing opportunity to meet new people, live an active social life and just relax by playing together.

We took this idea and thought: ' We could actually use this in our mission plan! We could offer the students this event with an extra thing: if the time is right we can talk about God or about our communities, services and other programmes!'

We had a full house at the Böszörményi st. Campus!!! GOD IS AMAZING!!!

LOOK AT THESE PHOTOS!!!

March

1 place - 1 weekend - 1 God BUT 350 young adults

Our weekend away in the city called Szeged was absolutely blessed!

Imagine 350 youngsters in the middle of a university discussing the Holy Spirit's move! It was also refreshing and formed our church community too as almost 70 members from our church joined the conference. We dedicated our time to dive deeper and learn more about the Holy Spirit as the topic was: FLOW. From different perspectives, people, on different venues and programmes we learned more and more every day!

God's be the glory that He gathered these students together so we could experience this unity!

HERE IS OUR 'TINY' GROUP! :)

Christmas Dinner

WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

img_9662.JPG

Annual Christmas DInner was held at the 8th of December!

Our pastors and volunteers eagerly peeled, chopped, cooked and baked the food for several days so all 140 people could enjoy a 3-course-meal together that evening. The church hall was filled with joy and laughter and the smell of amazing food!!

It was also a celebration for Dani and Barbi, as it was the 10th anniversary of him serving at the University Church in Debrecen and Barbi's 6th year.

Thank you for all your support and help throughout the year! May God continue to bless this partnership this coming year too!

In the name of the congregation and leaders we Wish You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

From Kassai Street Campus

'In search for God!' and 'Crafts for Christmas'!

'In search for God' was the title of a 7-session-long course which was held in October and November. A little group met up regularly on Wednesday evenings in the Hotel Campus.

The aim of this course was to get to know the basic elements of the Christian faith. Every evening it was an exciting talk on the topic and discussion in groups . We should not forget the delicious dinner wich was provided every time by our hard-working staff.

It could not be possible without the help of the church members!

We got absolutely positive feedback from the participants. They said they got a different aspect to view their faith and they ound every topic equally interesting! Which were:

  • God and images of God
  • The Bible, as the word of God
  • Who is Jesus?
  • Who is the Holy Spirit?
  • Faith and Christianity
  • Prayer
  • What is the Church?

Our aim was to invite young adults, students who are interested in this topic and to tell them more about our God. And also to invite them to our congregation where they can learn more about God!

SOLI DEO GLORIA!!!

CHRISTMAS CRAFT EVENIG

We held our Christmas Craft Evening this year too as usual. Members from our church and also those who live in the students' hostel joined us for on evening of arts and cafts, mulled wine and hot tea. We made beautiful christmas decorations as you can see on the photos.

It is always a time of laughter and joy and a place to talk more about our church and of course our Lord!

Thanks to all who helped us in any way!

This community has grown so much this past year! Thank you for all your help!!!

From Krakow with Love

-Our trip to Poland-

At the end of October our 'little' group of 120 university students from all around of the Carpathian Basin (Debrecen, Szeged, Kolozsvár, Beregszász, Ungvár, Budapest) joined together to take in the the city of Krakow!

Here is a few memories they wanted to share:

img_8846.JPG

'It was a unique opportunity to be part of this trip with the University Church. Sightseeing and community building combined well during those few days. It was nice that next to the organised programmes of the trip, we had time just to wander around on the streets of Krakow with friends. I especially enjoyed the stop at Zakopane on the way back to Debrecen.' (Balazs B.)

20161023_102501.jpg

'I just cannot stop thinking about the endless night spent with playing games, chatting ang laughing. Also it was pretty amazing to take in the city with a crowd of students from different churches.' (Brigitta N.)

Kinga D. said:

'I think the best thing was during this trip that we knew exactly what unites us and we can worship OUR GOD wherer we might be. The proof for this was that our last devotional time was held at a parking lot of a gas station in Slovakia.'

Step by step at the Campus at Böszörményi street

It is fascinating to see how a child grows. Sometimes it causes challenges, like buying larger and larger clothes in almost every month. This is the challenge we experience in our community in every semester from the start. We had to move from one classroom to another because each proved to be small after few months. Now we have the right one (at least for this semester) and are grateful to God for giving us these challenges.

This is how we do it!

Girls' and guys' movie night

Isn't it just so much better to enjoy a decent meal and watch a great movie                                                                                       WITH FRIENDS???

That is why we have decided to do this on our usual ladies' and gentlemen's evening. Although we did the same thing it was two seperate evenings. Thursday for the girls and Friday for the guys!

Just two relaxed evenings enjoying each others company, the movie and of course the snack!

What's bring us together?

Friends - Food - Fun

grillpartya.JPG

We could continue the list with words like worship, fellowship, love or the Holy Spirit and that would all describe our evening. More than 100 members from our church (all three campuses) attended our barbecue on the 29th of September. We had time to feed our souls and our bodies as well. What an evening! Filled with worship, laughter, fun games and yummy food :)

Special thanks to all of those who did the preparation, grilled our food, prepared and led the games or contributed in any other ways. And all of those who came-this event would not have been the same without you!!!

(You can see the galery if you click on the photo!)

Second event was held in a different location. On the 10th of October a group represented us at the Böszörményi street campus! As from the photos we can all see that the group had a superb time! It is always such an amazing opportunity to be seen on events what the university organised. This is where the mission begins! :)

So what does bring us together? God brings us together through this church!

 What happened recently:

  • ladies' and gentlemen's movie night
  • first 4K meeting
  • trip to Krakow

We'll post about these! Look for new blogposts throughout the week!

Wishing a blessed Sunday to all of our readers! :)

Refreshed by our weekend-away

-First semester opener camp-

We had such an amazing time on the last weekend in September at a village called Túrricse!!!

Gathering the 3 communities we were able to spend 3 whole days together to grow as one big church family. Words cannot really explain how wonderful it was! Imagine more than 60 young adults worshipping God, growing in the knowledge of Christ and sharing their faith! We were focusing on the topic of this term and looking at what we believe as a church.

We have to agree on one thing: photos talk better than words! :)

By by spring semester!

Another semester passed by with full of laughter, joy and new experiences. But most importantly: a semester that we spent praising God by loving each other, by showing His love to those who haven’t met Him yet and caring for those who are in need.

Thank you our American friends for being partners in this journey and walking with us as we are growing in Christ.

There are a few pictures from our usual grill party.

And some more from this semester.
